Phone Interview Tips
The phone interview tips are divided into three sections.

(Toastmasters is an international group which focuses on competent communication skills) Below is a list of things Janet and John have researched to prepare you for a phone interview.
Prepare for a telephone interview the same way you would for a face-to-face interview. Have a list of your strong and weak qualities. Be prepared to answer questions on your background and relate your experiences to the job you are applying for. Also, role-play on the phone with a partner. Practice will give you confidence.
Phone Interview for Nurse travel jobs
Find yourself in a quiet secluded place with no distractions.
No T.V. or music in the background.
Preferably a landline, not a cell-phone connection. If you must,ensure you have a good cell connection that will not cut out.
Shut off all cell phones (if using a land line) and ignore
call waiting.
No children or pets in the immediate area.
Be in a comfortable chair so you can keep good posture.
Use a telephone headset (if you have one) so you can be free
to write and move. Make sure the headset is of good quality
that you have tested.
Have a glass of water nearby (only use to wet mouth during the
interview).
Have a pen and paper handy.
Have your resume available so you can access information
easily.
Pronounce names properly and ask if you are not sure.
If the employer has a web site, you may want to access the homepage but do not get distracted by doing so.
Have notes about the employer at hand.
Have a short list of your accomplishments.
The most important phone interview tip for a nurse interview is to stay relaxed.
Relaxation Tips for a Travel Nurse (Keep it simple)
Take a deep breath and push in on your stomach and count to 10 or 15 or whatever is comfortable to you. Let the air out and do the same count. Pause and relax.
Repeat this three times.
Breathing exercises help supply oxygen to the brain and are
relaxing.
Stretching facial muscles, yawning and humming prior to an interview can help clear the throat and relax the muscles that you will need in the interview.
The Phone Interview
No smoking, chewing gum, eating or drinking
Smiling can project an image but also helps to change the tone of your voice.
Speak slowly and clearly. Articulate your words.
If you have a loud voice, tone it down in the interview.
If you have a soft voice, tone it up in the interview.
A few seconds of silence is good while you are gathering your thoughts. Think before you speak.
Give short, clear answers.
The goal is to setup a face-to-face interview. In the travel nurse industry,the phone interview usually will be the only interview.
Remember to say thank-you, then ask how and when you should do a follow up.
