The one thing predictable about travel nursing is that it is unpredictable.For this reason your budget must be flexible and unique to your needs. We will be discussing “Your Travel Nurse Budget” in this addition. If you are having problems staying on budget or need some tips to fine tune your budget this newsletter is for you. Use this newsletter to set aside some time each month on the week of the fifteenth to update your budget and review your goals. Your Travel Nurse BudgetCreating an effective budget gives you control over your finances and your life. The title “Your Traveling Budget” highlights the fact that as a traveler your budget needs to flexible. Wish for the best plan for the worst. We have customized a excel template for travel nursing. At the bottom of this article you will see the instructions to order a template. Five Steps For Budgeting 1.Keep It Simple. Later once you get the hang of it you can ad more details. Keep a daily travel diary and enter your daily expenses including cash. 2.Set aside the week of the fifteenth of each month to review your budget. Let this newsletter be a gentle reminder and coach you along. Each month we will be discussing ways to save money while traveling. 3.Calculate Your Monthly Income. Most contracts are thirteen week contracts and many times you are without income before and after a assignment.( Calculate monthly income tax and other deductions. Your monthly income should reflect what you have left to cover expenses. Monthly Salary Calculation Paid weekly multiply by 52 Divide by 12 Paid every two weeks times 26 Divide by 12 Paid twice a month times 24 divide by 12 Paid every 3 weeks 17.34 times 12 Include other sources of income like interest, alimony, or child support. 4. Expenses Estimate your expenses as far ahead as possible. We have left spaces on our template for extra expenses. Starting out print out the template (instuctions at the bottom of the page) and use an old fashion pencil and eraser. Later you can use the computer. Do not worry about getting the estimates perfect. 5. Actual Expenses Keep receipts in a large envelope and ad what you spent at least once a month. Change your estimate to the actual cost. I keep a diary while traveling and list my purchase’s including cash in when I update the diary. The above process will give you a clear picture of your income and expenses.It is not unusual to discover expenses higher than income. In May we will be discussing " fine tuning expenses". Once you are comfortable doing this manually start using the excel template which will automate your budget.

You can find Amber Alerts at http://www.travel-nurse-coach.com/Travel-Nurse-blog.html Healthy RecipeThings you will needA pan or glass casserole (We bake everything in a glass casserole.) 12 oz fettucine (whole wheat ) 1 TBSP butter or maregine 1 small onion finely chopped 1 TBSP all purpose flour 1 can evaporated milk 1(213g) can salmon 1TBSP lemon juice 1 TSP grated lemon zest chopped fresh parsley. Directions 1.Cook pasta and drain 2.Melt butter in saucepan: add onion and heat for about five minutes or until onion is soft. Stir in flour and cook for one minute or until thickened. 3.Drain salmon. Discard skin but mash stones. Stir in lemon juice and lemon zest. Pour sauce over cooked pasta toss and add parsley. This recipe is great to make once a week. You can have several meals that only take a minute to reheat in the microwave.
