Travel Nurse Taxes

Tax cartoon

Travel Nurse Taxes will help you get ready for tax time. Make sure you know which Travel Nurse Benefits you receive are taxable.

John and I pay for all our expenses, including my nurse license and other deductions, by credit card whenever possible. In the event you may have to supply receipts to claim travel nurse expenses a credit card supplies you with proof of purchase. Keep all cash receipts and assume all expenses on your travel nurse assignment are deductible. Your tax professional will go over with you what you can deduct.

Keeping records and copies organized for a Travel Nurse can be frustrating. It is important to develop a system that works for you. We scan all cash receipts and mail them to our home base. If we are on assignment we can access are expenses on the computer. Copies are available if necessary. The previous years tax return will also be required at tax time.

In the U.S. it is your responsibility to keep your address current. This can be tricky when you are moving around. We have always given out our home base and forwarded our mail.

Always make sure your employer is taking off enough tax. If you are having a hard time saving money consider a pay-to-pay deduction like a 401 K. Check with a financial planner for a good retirement plan.

If you receive a tax refund that refund must be added to your income in the following year.
